The minimum weight requirement for hallmarking precious metal articles in the UK depends on the type of metal.

For gold, the minimum weight is 1 gram.

For silver, the minimum weight is 7.78 grams.

Jewellery hallmarking is legaly required in the UK to insure the purity of the precious metal in jewellery. hallmarking process involves a series of tests and evaluation conducted by an independent body known as an Assay Office
In the UK, the legal requirements for hallmarking state that all precious metal jewellery must be hallmarked if it weighs 1 gram or more for gold, 7.78 grams or more for silver, and 1 gram or more for platinum. The hallmark must include a symbol indicating the precious metal, the purity of the metal, and the name of the Assay Office that conducted the hallmarking.
